1047, 1048, 1049, 1050... Houston, we have a barn roof.

Yes, that tiny little person on the far right hand side of the roof is me putting in the last screw on the roof.

We installed 12 panels today; six this morning and six this afternoon. Now it's hot tub time.

We worked on the barn Monday. We put up eight more roofing panels before it became too warm to continue. I also ran out of steam but we won't go there. We will be putting up more panels again today (twelve panels to go - more or less). Taking more photos is sort of redundant at this point. So, if you want to see the progress you can go to Roger's Blog and click on live photos.

Tomorrow we start back to work on the barn. The "kids" returned home today after being here for more than a week. It was far more enjoyable visiting with them than pounding nails and driving screws but, I guess the work must be done. Updates on the barn will resume tomorrow.

I was out taking photos of the new fawns when I thought I saw a pheasant in the yard. As you can tell it didn't hang around very long. I managed to snap this photo and then forgot about it. When Roger down loaded the image it turned out to be a young turkey. We haven't seen many coyotes this year so the birds probably feel more secure in their habitat. Since there will be "No Hunting" on the property I'm hoping we will experience more sightings like this one. This is another "first" for our little ranch.

We were out taking photos of the wheat harvest yesterday and shot this aerial view of the barn.
It should look good... If we ever get it done. All things come in time.

No Work Today...

Things never turn out as you expect them to, do they? We rush through life completing each task (or not) with a single focus hoping to complete one task before we start the next. Then something happens that turns our head; slows us down; gives pause to our fast and furious forward progress.

We forget that life is not a paved super highway meant to be traversed in haste. It is a slow and gentle country road meant to be strolled down and savored each and every step of the way.

Life is a fragile commodity once taken it can never be returned. Life is what happens while we are preparing to live. Give thanks to each and every day that you are able to spend with your family.

My father loved my mother. He stood by her for 65 years before he finally said good bye. He said good bye to all of us. We just refused to acknowledge that he really was leaving. He was 87.

Thank you for being my father Dad. I wouldn’t have chosen any other even if I had been given a choice.

My thanks to all who sent their condolences.

We continued the barn construction today. We screwed in the last of the stringers and put lag bolts in the 2x6’s that remained on the original wall above the roof line for the addition. We then proceeded with the arduous task of fastening the roof panels to the stringers.

We finished three more panels this afternoon. With the two we installed previously the grand total finished now stands at five. Yippee! We only have 25 more to do. IF we got out early tomorrow and IF we stick with the plan, we hope to have the rest of the panels securely attached in two days.

These are in my vegetable garden. Yes, I planted them. No, I don’t really plan to do anything with them. I’m just feeding the birds (and the bees - see second photo). Now maybe the birds leave my tomatoes alone.
