This is a frequent visitor to our gardens. We think he's a Warbler but doesn't match (exactly) any of the species identified in our Bird Identification Book. It's said that Warblers are not exactly faithful to their species and will breed with other Warblers. So, this one may be a hybrid. Pretty though.

Multi-tasking while flying his favorite “toy” is not advisable for Roger so when the need arises he’s the pilot and I’m the photographer. We went out to take photos of the local construction going on in our area. Cutting across the wheat fields we ran across this guy. Does are common but a buck is a rare site. He didn’t seem too concerned with our presence but refused to smile for the camera.

Then again, maybe he was looking at something else...

Remember last year when I got so excited about the fact that the Koi in our pond had spawned? Yea, that was last year. I “fished” out about 150 of the little guys and found homes for them in the “Great Fish Giveaway Contest”. Not a contest really. Only one rule: BYOB (bring your own bucket). I caught them and interested people took them home. I was hoping that I could find homes for most of them but, believe it or not, I gave them all away. Now I have a waiting list

I knew there were more in the pond and (now that they are big enough to see well) was planning on catching them when we cleaned the pond this summer. Well, I don’t think the “Great Pond Cleaning Contest” will happen anytime soon because we waited too long. The fish have spawned again and now there are more microscopic little bodies swimming merrily about the pond. The thought of trying to catch several hundred tiny fish (one at a time b.t.w.) does not appeal to me.

Here are (6) three inch one-year-olds that survived the winter in the pond.

I fed the cat this morning. I saw him heading out into the field across from the driveway. This is the first we’ve seen of him since our return from California. I would like to keep him around to catch the voles that tear up our lawn. He appeared to be unusually wary this morning but couldn’t resist the Fancy Feast.

Just as I picked up the bowl to return it to the house a few large (very large) rain drops began to fall. I knew we were in for a good soaking. Much to my surprise, excitement and disappointment we got more than rain.

The worst part of the storm went on for about 5 minutes with hail (ice) stones about the size of a nickel. Take a look. I'm not sure where Spector went but my garden is a wreck

We have been working out of doors since we returned from California. Between weeding the garden, planting trees and mowing knee high grass we have been pretty busy. Sometimes, however, we take the time to just look around. This is a view of one of the flower beds. Isn’t Mother Nature just grand?

I woke up this morning to find this beauty sitting on the roof of the Koi shed. I grabbed the camera and walked out the back door to take a photo of him. I kept shooting as I progressed closer to the bird.
In the first photo he appears to be dozing.
But he wasn't...
He tried to ignore my presence...
Then he turned and gave me once last glance.

Then off he went.

I woke up early this morning. I'm not sure if it was the snoring or the birds chirping just around day break but there was no use denying that I was not going back to sleep.

I came into the office to fire up this computer. As it was going through the arduous process of loading I looked out the office window and saw these two playing in the back hard. I grabbed my camera and shot the photo through the screen. The deer on the right is a buck; the one on the left a doe.

This is my third sighting of a buck. Roger has never seen one and I attempted to wake him. At this early hour (5:30 AM) he was not really interested in looking at deer and told me as much. Oh well, next time…maybe.

No Place Like Home

It's always fun to travel to new places and visit with family and friends but... "There's No Place Like Home" The photo is a couple of years old and I think must have been taken during the fall season. Just paint the hills green and you will get the idea.
